Improving the Lives of Cancer
Patients with Art Therapy

Supporting Education and Practice

The Corinne Burton Memorial Trust is the only charity in the UK that supports the practice of art psychotherapy for cancer care. Our work includes a scholarship at Goldsmiths for Art Therapists specializing in cancer care, the direct support of art therapy positions in hospitals, and supporting the field through publication of materials and books. The Trust was founded by Sir Michael Burton QC, following the death of his artist and illustrator wife Corinne from cancer, in 1992.

The Corinne Burton Memorial Trust Scholarship

To help ensure that there are enough qualified art psychotherapists, the CBMT scholarship provides funding for art psychotherapy students at Goldsmiths University London specializing in cancer care.

Direct Support of Art Therapy
Positions in Hospitals

In partnership with the NHS, CBMT art therapists currently practice in the Cancer Centre at Barts Hospital in London, where in addition to their core work with patients, they are also working on important areas of research, and providing support for medical staff.

Publications and Books in the Field

To help support the development of the field of art psychotherapy for cancer care, we support the publication of new materials in the space. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of CBMT, we published our own book, pulling together the stories and experiences CBMT alumni in their practice of art therapy in the UK.

“The Corinne Burton Memorial Trust scholarship...has made an “incalculable contribution” to the field of art therapy in cancer care.”
