Corinne's Story
"I don't know how I would have coped without my painting"
— Corinne Burton
Corinne Burton was a talented artist and book illustrator, wife of Sir Michael Burton and mother of four daughters — Josephine, Isabel, Genevieve, and Henrietta. Tragically, Corinne died of cancer aged only 42 in June 1992.
As an artist, she found profound solace in her creativity during the darkest moments of her illness. Painting gave her a way to express feelings that words could not capture, and offered her comfort, dignity, and a sense of purpose when she needed it most.
Inspired by witnessing the transformative power that art had on Corinne during her final months, Sir Michael established The Corinne Burton Memorial Trust. His vision was simple but powerful: to ensure that other cancer patients could access the same healing benefits of art therapy that had meant so much to Corinne. Over three decades later, that vision has grown into the UK's only charity dedicated entirely to art therapy in cancer care.
A Message from Our Chair
"When we lost my beloved wife Corinne to cancer in 1992, I witnessed firsthand how creating art brought her comfort, dignity, and a means of expression when words often failed. Over three decades later, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude to see how Corinne's legacy continues to touch the lives of so many."
