How We Measure Impact

We use clinically validated psychometric tools — the same outcome measures used by NHS Cancer Alliance UK — to track the wellbeing of every patient before and after their art therapy programme.

PHQ-8 (Depression Scale)

The Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-8) is a widely used diagnostic tool that measures the severity of depression. Scores range from 0–24, where higher scores indicate greater severity. A reduction of 3+ points is considered clinically significant.

GAD-7 (Anxiety Scale)

The Generalised Anxiety Disorder Assessment (GAD-7) measures the severity of anxiety symptoms. Scores range from 0–21, where higher scores indicate greater severity. A reduction of 3+ points is considered clinically significant.

In Their Own Words

What our patients say about art therapy

My therapist is so patient and kind. She listens and makes me feel listened to. I am grateful for this service when I felt as if I were wading in a sea of treacle with no escape.

— CBMT Patient

I enjoyed art therapy; it was great for me and the fact I didn't wait to start the sessions was very helpful as the intervention was offered at the time when I needed it the most!

— CBMT Patient

Cancer treatment was hellish... In a situation where I had very little control over my body, my time or my treatment, art therapy became vital. Art therapy was a place that I could take my anger, anxieties, and treatment horror stories to feel how I needed to.
